Description:

This is the first of two educational art history videos exploring Antonio and Piero del Pollaiuolo’s The Martyrdom of Saint Sebastian. This altarpiece evidences two important contributions, made by the Pollaiuolo brothers, to Italian Renaissance art: the depiction of localized pictorial space as a context for sacred narrative and the potential of the human body as a visualization of dramatic action. Part of the Seeing Art History series, it is written and narrated by Dr. James Romaine.
